7 Foods to Never Eat, According to Nutritionists

Everyone knows those foods that are healthy and those that are not, right? You would be surprised at which foods, although advertised as the “healthy option”, really are anything but. In fact, some of the worst offenders are filled with ingredients that, on top of being unhealthy, keep those inches on your waistline and won’t let you take off those extra pounds. There are still other foods that, although they actually are healthy, they are simply too dangerous to consider eating. There are probably dozens of foods which would make this list, but let’s take a look at just the top 7 foods that you absolutely must remove them from your diet if you care at all about your health.

You will be surprised to hear that sprouts are unhealthy. There has been more than 40 recalls on sprouts due to either contamination or health issues in only 20 years. This applies to all types of sprouts including peas, alfalfa and bean. Sprouts grow in warm conditions, which are also perfect for the survival of bacteria such as listeria, salmonella and E.coli. In addition to that, you may not be aware of how long the sprouts may have stayed by the time you go to buy them from a store. This is considering the fact that sprouts can grow bacteria in a short period if they are not handled in a proper way.

Your only way out is to grow the sprouts at home under your watch or consume carrots and cabbage instead.

You definitely know that ketchup is used on hamburgers and French fries. However, you may not be familiar with the fact that ketchup is actually poisoning your burger or fries which are already unhealthy. High fructose corn syrup, which happens to be sugar, is used to make ketchup. This is in addition to the fact that the corn is GMO. There is some ketchup with two different types of sugar. Excess sugar and fats are really damaging to your well-being. Another thing about ketchup is that it is heated then boiled down, which gets rid of some nutrients that are highly beneficial to your health. In addition to that, some ketchup brands are packed with artificial colors, preservatives, artificial colors and excess amounts of sodium. Such ingredients are surely harmful to your body. You should keep your ketchup consumption as low as possible.

You’d think that the “margarine myth” would have been put to bed years ago, but many people are still using it. The initial idea was that margarine was lower in saturated fats than butter, so it would protect heart health. But we now know that’s not true.

Sadly, trans fats were the original fats used in margarines.  This is tragic, given that today, we now know trans fats are responsible for about 50,000 fatal heart attacks a year.  Trans fat also increases someone’s risk of developing type II diabetes and several other severe health problems.

While trans fats have since been removed from most margarines, it’s important to note that most contain industrial, highly processed fats that would never be found in nature.

Better option: Choose butter or ghee from grass-fed cows. Or try coconut oil.

4.Swai fish

Swai fish is popping up as a trendy menu item all over the country, but I’m begging you, don’t be tricked. This “river catfish” is most often raised in Vietnamese ponds with truly abysmal track records. Also called tra, basa, striped pangasius and sutchi, this fish only costs about $2 a pound but comes with a hefty price tag.

A 2016 study found 70 to 80 percent of pangasius samples were contaminated by Vibriobacteria — the microbes behind most cases of shellfish poisoning.  In August 2016, the U.S. reportedly turned away 40,000 pounds of swai due to contamination issues. This includes fish testing positive for malachite green, a carcinogenic veterinary drug used to treat sick fish.

Swai is also implicated in widespread seafood fraud. In 2015, a Virginia seafood importer was sentenced to prison for importing $15.5 million worth of pangasius “catfish” and marketing it as sole, grouper, flounder, snakehead and other fish.

5.White Bread

Bread is generally made from wheat, which contains the protein gluten.

For this reason, all wheat-based breads are a bad idea for people who have celiac disease or gluten sensitivity.

However, most commercial breads are unhealthy, even for people who do tolerate gluten.

This is because the great majority of them are made from refined wheat, which is low in essential nutrients (empty calories) and leads to rapid spikes in blood sugar.

Alternatives: For people who can tolerate gluten, ezekiel bread is an excellent choice. Whole grain bread is also definitely better (or “less bad”) than white bread.

6.Anything from fast food chains

Fast food joints certainly are not thinking about food when they are serving you; they are only thinking of their profits and their stockholders. Although everyone knows fast food is not healthy, it seems Americans just can’t leave it alone.

That’s probably because of all the added trans- fats, salt, chemicals like MSG, and sugars that are added to the food to make it taste so good.  For example, those “specialty” burgers all the fast food places are pushing: did you know that some of those burgers (such as McDonald’s double quarter pounder with cheese) have more than 19 grams of saturated fats?

Let’s not forget about portion size, either. A large serving of French fries from McDonald’s has 4 days’ worth of Trans fat all by itself.

All fast food is loaded with everything bad you want to avoid: GMO corn, trans- fats, commercialized beef, food dyes, artificial sweeteners, sugar, excessive salt, and many, many others. We haven’t even gotten to the preservative factor!

Eat smart and never eat all fast food like the plague!

7.Ranch Dressing

Most Americans undoubtedly love ranch dressing. We literally put it on everything from pizzas and fries to salads and burgers. As much as it tastes great, ranch dressing is not good for your health. There is more than 75 calories in each tablespoon. One ounce of ranch dressing has 7 grams of fat and 137 calories. Sadly, most people consume about 100 grams of salad, which transforms to 500 calories. Considering this, then one Big Mac from McDonald’s contains about 525 calories. This is definitely harmful to your health. In addition to extreme calorie levels, ranch dressing is also packed with modified food starch, malt dextrin, artificial colors, artificial flavors and sugar, which are not required by your body. As you can see, ranch dressing is damaging to your system. If you can’t resist using it then you have the option of using homemade ranch dressing.
