While there are many theories which talk about the possible causes of cancer, foods that help fight cancer is a separate list to look at. In today’s lifestyle, protecting yourself from cancer has become important, with every second thing we touch being cancer- exposed. A disease that attacks your healthy cells, cancer has almost become unavoidable.

Several studies have found that eating more carrots is linked to a decreased risk of certain types of cancer.
For example, an analysis looked at the results of five studies and concluded that eating carrots may reduce the risk of stomach cancer by up to 26%.
Another study found that a higher intake of carrots was associated with 18% lower odds of developing prostate cancer.
One study analyzed the diets of 1,266 participants with and without lung cancer. It found that current smokers who did not eat carrots were three times as likely to develop lung cancer, compared to those who ate carrots more than once per week.
Try incorporating carrots into your diet as a healthy snack or delicious side dish just a few times per week to increase your intake and potentially reduce your risk of cancer.
Still, remember that these studies show an association between carrot consumption and cancer, but don’t account for other factors that may play a role.

One of the largest studies to look at the protective effects of eating nuts was published in November 2013 in the New England Journal of Medicine: those who ate 1 ounce of nuts at least five times a week were 11 percent less likely to die from any kind of cancer. 3. Make chocolate bark: Melt dark chocolate, stir in your favorite nuts and spread on wax paper; chill until cold. Break into bite-size pieces.
Chili peppers are brimming with carotenoids, which are associated with cancer-protecting properties. Research has also shown that capsaicin found in chili peppers may also contribute to cancer cell death. It’s just another reason to add some spice to your dishes.
Pomegranates are high in the polyphenol punicalagin and anthocyanins, both are powerful antioxidants. Research conducted on both animals and humans found that pomegranate juice helped slow down cancer cell growth.

Broccoli sprouts (and Brussels sprouts too!) are high in glucosinolates which are a compound that can prevent cancer in the body. These sprouts are best when eaten raw in order to absorb the full nutrient and cancer-fighting properties. Try making a raw slaw as a side dish or throw these greens into your salad for maximum benefits.
Tomatoes are packed with lycopene, which has been shown to help prevent prostate cancer, specifically by preventing the development of free radicals and DNA damage. Populations that eat lots of tomato dishes have a much lower risk of prostate cancer in men.
Cooking tomatoes, particularly in olive oil, increases the lycopene content and allows higher absorption into our cells. This explains why the Mediterranean diet is so effective on the cancer prevention front.
Several epidemiological studies have found that regular mushroom consumption reduces the rate of mortality from cancer. Japanese mushrooms such as shiitake, maitake and enokitake are packed with lentinan, which stimulates immune system activity, slowing tumour growth and the progress of cancer. They also help stimulate white blood cell count and activity.
